Additional travel suggestions:

There are also other van services like “Super Shuttle” available that will drop you off at your hotel/hostel. You can pre-book through the Super Shuttle website, although this is not required. Ask the attendant at Ground Transportation for the pickup location.  The Super Shuttle is cheaper than a taxi, but more expensive than public transportation. (http://www.supershuttle.com)

You can purchase an MTA card at the airport and if you plan on staying awhile they have deals for tourists (e.g. unlimited day passes).   You can ask the attendant at the station.  If you want to plan your trip yourself using MTA, you can use http://tripplanner.mta.info/.

If interested in tourist hot spots, please go to http://www.nyctourist.com/.

For more information, the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority website can be found here: http://www.mta.info.

Note that IPWSD participants from abroad may be required to obtain a U.S. Visa before travel.  Some information regarding U.S. visas for temporary visitors has been posted [here].
