Alliance Graduate Summer School 2024

The Alliance Graduate Summer School is an event organized by the Sustainable Development Doctoral Society of Columbia University. It began in 2012 as a student-led initiative to promote interdisciplinary exchange among graduate students working at the nexus of science and policy within Alliance institutions. The summer school connects world-class professors, industry experts, and graduate students through a mixture of guest speakers and workshops to foster the exchange of ideas, encourage intellectual discourse, and highlight cutting-edge research. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Development at the Interface of Global North and South” and will occur on the 28th-31st of May 2024 in Paris, France.

Scholarship Recipients

Naveen Kumar Kori

Public Policy Analyst

Uttarakhand Government

With over five years of experience across governmental, nonprofit, and international organizations, Naveen’s foundation in sustainable development from KDI School has motivated him to integrate policy with environmental solutions. His thesis on agricultural policies and air quality, which has been recognized internationally, highlights his commitment to impactful research. He is currently a Public Policy Analyst at the Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance in the Government of Uttarakhand, focusing on embedding the SDGs into state policies. He is preparing for a PhD in Sustainable Development, with the aim to devise solutions bridging policy and environmental health, driven by a commitment to global collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.

 

 

Hanna Taye

PhD Student in Agricultural Economics

Haramaya University

Holding a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics, specializing in Natural and Environmental Economics, Hanna brings 7 years of academic experience with a focus on Environmental economics, sustainable agricultural practice, climate change adaptation, rural youth employment in agriculture and gender in agricultural value-chains. Currently pursuing a PhD at Haramaya University, Africa Centre of Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Conservation, her research centers on Policy, Institution, and Innovation. Passionate about climate-resilient livelihoods, gender equality, and food security, she aspire to become a leading researcher, collaborating with stakeholders to formulate strategies for sustainable socio-economic development while preserving environmental resources.

Wulan Pusparini

PhD Student in Biology

University of Oxford

Wulan is a conservation scientist with an interdisciplinary background. Her training and skills range from ecology and statistical modelling to social science research and analysis. Prior to my PhD, I spent 10 years working in conservation in Indonesia. I hope to have a strategic influence on global biodiversity conservation efforts in the future. I have accepted a full-time position as Director of Research and Evaluation with a private foundation based in the USA and the UK. She believes that having a woman of color scientist from the global south in a global north foundation will hopefully help to level the power dynamic that exists today.
