Monasteries and Nunneries Map

At this link you can find a map of Tibetan Monasteries and Nunneries. I chose to distinguish between Monasteries and Nunneries because a distinction can be made between the two and I think it makes for an interesting comparison between sacred spaces where women are involved and included and those where they are not. I say a distinction can be made between the two because, “for the most part, monasteries for men and those for women were distinctly separate in Tibet” (Tsomo 1987).

If you click on the symbol next to the map title, a menu will open up and you can select the different layers of the map . Nunneries are in green and monasteries in blue. There is a description of the map on the side. Double click anywhere on the map to zoom. Click on the pin to see the name of the monastery or nunnery.
