Global Public Policy Network (GPPN) Essay Contest

The Journal of International Affairs is seeking student submissions for its semiannual GPPN Essay Contest. The author of the winning article will receive USD500 along with publication alongside noted scholars in the Journal’s forthcoming issue on Latin America.  Published by Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, the Journal of International Affairs is one of the oldest and most respected foreign affairs periodicals.

Spring 2013: Latin America
The spring 2013 issue will examine the region of Latin America and its transition from predominantly low- and middle-income to high-income countries. The geopolitics, economics, institutional, and social developments that have emerged within the last two decades in Latin America have profound implications for the region’s future landscape. There are a plethora of dimensions impacting the future of the region and our aim is to give attention to the diverse implications for Latin American countries and their relations with the international community.

Spring 2013 GPPN Essay: Describe a country in Latin America that has undergone a transition (political, economic, social, etc.) that is characteristic or unique in the region. The submission could include, for example, any regional influences on the country’s development or history and geopolitical context, and analyze these developments as they have led to the present, as well as implications for the future of the country and region. The essay may involve regional analyses but should focus on a single country. A successful essay will remain focused on a particular dimension of this transition while including broad implications.

Submission Deadline: January 23, 2013 at 11:59 P.M. Email submission or questions to David Abrahamson (Cordier and GPPN Editor) at [email protected].
