Call for Papers: Cyber

In anticipation of its upcoming issue, the Journal of International Affairs is sponsoring a call for papers on the intersection between cyber technology and foreign policy.

The Journal of International Affairs is a leading peer-reviewed journal published by the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. The issue will focus on how cyber technology is transforming international relations and how models of governance and law continue to adapt to the growing role of cyber technology in global political, economic, and security spheres.

In particular, this issue aims to explore the potential for cyber technology to:

  • Increase government transparency and freedom of information
  • Encourage and/or hinder economic and political liberalization
  • Advance and/or threaten national security
  • Undermine the authority of states and empower new international actors
  • Strengthen global civil society and social networks
  • Transform normative values (privacy rights and intellectual property rights)
  • Alter traditional forms of state military power and warfare
  • Promote interdependence between the state and private sector

The review committee welcomes all papers related to these topics.

Submissions are invited from academics and practitioners in international relations, political science, history, and related fields. Accepted papers will be peer reviewed, edited, and published in the Fall/Winter 2016 issue.

Submission Guidelines

Articles are accepted on a rolling basis through August 1, 2016.

Complete articles should be between 3,500 and 6,000 words in length (not including footnotes) and should adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style.

Submitted articles must be original work written in an academic style and must not be drawn substantially from material previously published by the author.

Proposals, abstracts, and full-text articles with a short author biography (200-word limit) should be submitted via e-mail to the selection committee at [email protected]. Please include “JIA – Article Submission” in the subject line.

Contact Senior Editor Tina Cai ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
