The ENCL Teaching Resources Database, a project of the Pedagogy Colloquium and the Lead Teaching Fellow program, aims to collate pedagogical resources focused on English, comparative literature, and writing studies and to establish an ongoing archive of institutional memory for departmental pedagogy. Modeled on the ENCL Graduate Career Resources site, the database will host department-specific pedagogical resources contributed by graduate students, faculty, and alumni of Columbia English and Comparative Literature. Its primary purposes are (1) to provide resources to support graduate student teaching and pedagogical development beyond the Undergraduate Writing Program that are easily accessible in a centralized location, and (2) to facilitate pedagogical discussion and exchange between members of the departmental community at all stages of their careers.
We are seeking submissions of any teaching materials and pedagogical resources members (current or former) of the department are willing to make available for the database. We particularly welcome materials including:
- Syllabi (for all course subjects and levels)
- Lesson plans
- Assignment prompts
- Materials for in-class exercises and active learning activities
- Handouts for students on transferable topics (close-reading, essay writing)
- Grading rubrics and assessment tools
- Course policies on AI use and other AI-related materials (AI-proof or AI-responsive assignments, strategies for teaching AI literacy)
- Sample course materials for commonly taught courses (University Writing, Literature Humanities, Approaches to Literary Study)
- Materials on inclusive teaching (e.g., feminist pedagogies, antiracist pedagogies, universal design and accessibility, “undisciplining”)
- Materials on digital humanities-based and multimodal teaching
