CSC successfully held the Alumni Panel Event for the second-year students.
This is a signature event hosted by the Columbia Statistic Club for the second-year graduate students in the M.A. program. This event provides students with the opportunity to meet with industry professionals and alumni to gain first-hand information and practical advice on various careers paths. Because of the wide array of professional experience, they are able to share invaluable information through an open and honest dialogue with the students.

Event Description
Guests first introduced themselves, including their background, their current position and the industry. Then they provided attendants with detailed insights into their current and previous jobs and the industry and explained what they considered as interesting and/or challenging about their jobs. Attendants also learned about how programming and statistical analysis skills would be used at the workplace. In addition, our alumni also talked about some useful tips on job hunting and networking including on-campus resources and alumni resources. They gave suggestions on time management which was critical.
During the Q&A session, guest speakers and attendants discussed about several questions in terms of finding a full time job and being prepared for a full-time position. For instance, there was a discussion on how different programming languages were suitable to different analysis or be applied for certain industries. This provided students with a clearer idea how their skill sets would fit into different positions.
At the end of the Panel Events, attendants were allowed to freely talk with the guests. Sun, Liu and Peng answered more specific questions that students were interested at. Moreover, they kindly helped to review some resumes and to give some feedbacks.
