Position/Party: Class of 2020 President Candidate/SEASus (re)Takes The Wheel

Bio: Ria is from the suburbs of Chicago excited to represent her SEAS 2020 classmates once again. Still deciding what she is majoring in, she is leaning toward computer science. She loved her time as ESC 2020 President during her first year, which is why she is running again! She is passionate about mental health issues and hopes to increase student spaces on campus. A big cause she wants to focus on is community building through SEAS 2020 wide events. She also aims to ensure all majors find opportunities like internships and research in their fields by working with CCE.

Platform: Our five-point plan to introduce positive change is geared towards improving the student life of SEAS:

Unity: semesterly SEAS gear, Yule (Winter) Ball, Class Brunch, spirit week.
Academic & Career Support: CCE support for major-specific internship opportunities, internship advisory panel
Student Amenities: extended hours in Lerner, grants for summer courses,
Transparency: public meeting minutes, upgrade idea submission portal (ESConnect)
Mental Health: Extended Lerner hours, improved housing lottery system (better lottery number by attending mental health, sexual respect, diversity workshops), pet therapy, faculty training on mental health

Position/Party: Class of 2020 President Candidate/SEASus (re)Takes The Wheel

Bio: Proudly representing California’s San Francisco Bay Area, Marisa’s one year in New England prep school inspired her to spend her college years on the East Coast. Planning to major in Chemical Engineering while at Columbia, she hopes to (a) continue her quest to understand exactly what her major entails, and (b) try as many new things as possible. Her passions include dancing, making friends, laughing at bad puns, and—conveniently enough!—serving on student government. Marisa hopes to continue her time as ESC 2020 VP by working to improve Columbia’s stance on mental health and building a strong community in SEAS.
