Postdoctoral Position – Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Disease
The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in infectious disease modeling and statistical inference.  This position is funded by a grant from the NIH to study measles persistence and population dynamics.  The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will join an experienced modeling team to develop cutting-edge model-Bayesian inference systems to study the spatial, temporal, and demographic dynamics of measles epidemics in recent decades and test different intervention/elimination strategies.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits.  Funding is available for up to 3 years.  Applications will be evaluated continuously until the position is filled.

  • PhD, ScD, or equivalent degree in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computational Biology, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Engineering or related analytical disciplines;
  • Proficiency in at least one programing language (e.g., R, Python, Matlab);
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and writing) and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in infectious disease dynamics/epidemiology;
  • Experience in mathematical modeling of high dimensional systems;
  • Strong interdisciplinary learning skills;
  • Ability to conduct self-directed research from hypothesis generating to testing;
  • Experience with spatial network modeling is a plus.
