DESCRIPTION:Consortium offices in Philadelphia\, 431 Chestnut Street\, Philadelphia\, PA 19106\, and at The New York Academy of Medicine\, 1216 Fifth Avenue (@ 103rd Street)\, New York\, NY 10029 OR online. \nSpeaker: Joanna Radin\, Yale University\nThe History of Medicine and Health Working Group of the Consortium for the History of Science\, Technology\, and Medicine meets monthly to discuss a colleague’s work in progress or to discuss readings that are of particular interest to participants. The next meeting of the Medicine and Health Working Group of the Consortium for the History of Science\, Technology\, and Medicine is on Friday\, April 21\, 2017. \nJoanna Radin\, from the Program in History of Science & Medicine\, Yale University\, will present “Latent Life in Biomedicine’s Ice Age\,” the first chapter of her new book\, Life on Ice: A History of New Uses for Cold Blood (Chicago\, 2017). Susan Lederer\, University of Wisconsin\, will provide commentary. Dr. Radin’s paper is now posted on the Working Group site. \nScholars anywhere can participate online. There are two opportunities to participate face-to-face.  At the Consortium offices in Philadelphia\, 431 Chestnut Street\, Philadelphia\, PA 19106\, and at The New York Academy of Medicine\, 1216 Fifth Avenue (@ 103rd Street)\, New York\, NY 10029. The Philadelphia and New York meetings are patched in by teleconference\, as are singleton scholars. Meetings are usually held on the third Friday of the month\, from 3:30 to 5:00pm. To participate online\, you will need formally to join this working group. To do so\, please sign up at the Working Group site\, or contact the Consortium at info@chstm.org. \nJoanna Radin received her PhD in History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research examines the social and technical conditions of possibility for the systems of biomedicine and biotechnology that we live with today. She has particular interests in the history of biomedical technology\, scientific collections\, anthropology\, public health\, humanism\, and research ethics.
