DESCRIPTION:Heyman Center for the Humanities\, Second Floor Common Room \nWe have access to accounts of hysteria\, more or less exclusively\, through the male gaze of the physician. In response\, Hysteria from the Archives engages with both phenomenology (the experiences of women diagnosed with hysteria) and rhetoric (narratives\, symbols\, and performance) through a collection of poems written out of late 19th century sources on hysteria. \nSpeaker: Leticia Fernández-Fontecha\, Visiting Professor in European Studies at Columbia University and the author of Hysteria from the Archives \nRespondent: Liz Bowen\, Ph.D. Candidate in English and Comparative Literature and author of the poetry collection  Sugarblood  \n  \nFree and open to the public\, but RSVP required to attend and to receive materials. Please email Roshana Nabi at rn2019@columbia.edu to register. \nThis is part of the Poetry Coffee Hour series at the Heyman Center for the Humanities.
