SUMMARY:Healing When there is No Cure - Neonatal Comfort Care
DESCRIPTION:Neonatal Comfort Care: A unique medical care program for babies with very short life expectancy \nNewYork Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital is home to one of the most renowned neonatal intensive care units\, staffed with specialists who provide critical care to newborns to help them get better. \nSome infants\, however\, are affected by life-limiting conditions or terminal illnesses. We believe that\, no matter how brief each baby’s life is precious and need to be welcomed and cherished. \nThrough our Neonatal Comfort Care Program we provide all of the care these babies need to have their basic needs satisfied during their short life\, in an environment that is compassionate\, warm and loving. \nCome and meet Dr Elvira Parravicini (Program Medical Director)\, nurse Fran McCarthy (Program Care Coordinator) and Alessandra Rose (Maggie’s mother) who will share experiences of beauty and love within the drama of a baby born with short life expectancy. \nSpeakers:\nFrances McCARTHY\, MS\, RNC—Clinical Care Coordinator of the Neonatal Comfort Care Program\, New York Presbyterian Hospital\nElvira PARRAVICINI\, MD—Neonatologist\, Founder and Director of the Neonatal Comfort Care Program\, New York Presbyterian Hospital\nAlessandra ROSE—Parent \nThis conference is open to the public and free of charge. \nThis event is sponsored by the Research Cluster in Science and Subjectivity\, part of the Center for Science and Society.
