DESCRIPTION:Cornelia Street Cafe\, 29 Cornelia Street\, New York\, NY \nAndré Fenton\, NYU\nDario Acosta Teich\, musician \nJimi Hendrix’s influence on brain science are explored by André Fenton of NYU\, and on the acoustic guitar by visiting Argentinian guitar virtuoso Dario Acosta Teich. We tend to think of memory as a psychological concept\, because we don’t yet understand memory as a biological entity or a process. But this is beginning to change. André Fenton will explain how scientists are discovering the biological basis of how experience changes brains and alters their function—breakthroughs that will have a remarkable impact on our lives in large part because this understanding will confirm and teach us that the experiences we have and choose to have\, unequivocally change our brains in ways that also change our futures. Dario will assay how a variety of Latin folk music and dance and avant-garde experiences\, and yes Hendrix\, are synthesized to produce new directions and techniques in perhaps our era’s central instrument\, the guitar. \nAndré Fenton is a Professor of Neural Science at New York University. His research focus is molecular\, neural\, behavioral\, and computational aspects of memory. He studies how brains store experiences as memories\, and how the expression of knowledge activates information that is relevant without activating what is irrelevant. André founded Bio-Signal Group Corp.\, which developed and commercialized an FDA-approved portable\, wireless\, and easy to use platform for obtaining medical quality EEGs anywhere\, anytime\, and for everyone.and co-hosts NOVA Wonders\, soon to air on PBS. \nJazz harmonies\, tango beats\, Latin American groove\, Bossa Nova and open-minded avant-garde concepts come together in solo guitar virtuoso Dario Acosta Teich‘s music\, and he is now on a worldwide tour in support of his second solo album “To Fly”.
