SUMMARY:Critical Histories\, Activist Futures: Science\, Medicine\, and Racial Violence Conference
DESCRIPTION:Yale University \nThe History\, Science\, and Justice Collective at Yale University is pleased to announce the “Critical Histories\, Activist Futures: Science\, Medicine\, and Racial Violence” conference that will take place on February 24 and 25\, 2017. Please learn more about the conference\, explore the conference program and find tips for getting to Yale University on the conference website. \nThe History\, Science\, and Justice Collective is a student-led initiative dedicated to building interdisciplinary coalitions at Yale and beyond to address issues of social justice. Our strategy is two-pronged: first\, to build diversity and representation within the academy\, and\, second\, to foster the historical study of the intersection of science and justice. Science and medicine wield extraordinary cultural power\, and our work aims to explore how their authority has affected the economic\, political\, and social rights of individuals. We believe history can be a resource for engaging in the present and for imagining more just futures. \n“Critical Histories\, Activist Futures: Science\, Medicine\, and Racial Violence” is generously supported by the Dean’s Fund for Research Workshops\, Seminars and Colloquia; the Office for Graduate Student Development and Diversity; the Program in the History of Science and Medicine; the Franke Program in the Humanities; and the Office of the FAS Dean and the Deputy Dean for Diversity and Faculty Development. \n
