SUMMARY:Understanding Urban Habitats
DESCRIPTION:CUNY Graduate Center\, 365 Fifth Avenue\n9100: Skylight Room \nEcology has historically focused on natural environments\, but scientists are increasingly turning their attention to understanding urban ecosystems. With 50% of the world’s population living in cities — and the heightened risks associated with climate change\, green spaces\, and flooding — studying urban habitats offers keys to design and planning that can help cities work better. Charles Vörösmarty\, director of the Environmental Sciences Initiative at the GC’s Advanced Science Research Center\, moderates a panel of CUNY experts in this growing field\, including Deborah Balk\, Peter Groffman\, Peter Marcotullio\, and Andrew Reinmann. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but RSVP is requested; please visit the event website for more details. \nThis event is part of the City of Science Series and is sponsored by CUNY Graduate Center’s Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC).
