DESCRIPTION:Speakers: \nChitra Ganesh\, visual artist \nShai Heredia\, filmmaker\, curator\, and founding director of Experimenta \nPriya Sen\, Delhi-based filmmaker and artist \nPlease join us for a special evening of artist talks and a collective conversation with Chitra Ganesh\, Shai Heredia\, and Priya Sen who are coming together in New York this month in conjunction with Ganesh’s exhibition\, Her Garden\, A Mirror\, opening at the Kitchen. The exhibition is inspired by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain’s 1905 sci-fi novella about a feminist utopia and serves as the occasion for a discussion about the aesthetics and politics of imagined futures. \nFree and open to the public; please refer to the poster below for more details. \nChitra Ganesh is a visual artist based in Brooklyn\, NY. Her work has been widely exhibited in the United States\, with solo presentations at PS 1/MOMA\, Brooklyn Museum\, Goteborgs Konsthalle\, Andy Warhol Museum\, and Rubin Museum. Her latest exhibition\, Chitra Ganesh: Her Garden\, a mirror will be on view at The Kitchen from September 14- October 20. \nShai Heredia is a filmmaker\, curator\, and founding director of Experimenta\, an international moving image art biennial in India. She teaches at the Srishti Institute of Art\, Design and Technology in Bangalore. Her award-wining short film\, I Am Micro (2012)\, develops a longstanding interest in avant-garde film practice and the state of the official archive. \nPriya Sen is a Delhi-based filmmaker and artist working on questions of form\, urban ethnographies\, music\, and migration.Her latest documentary feature\, Yeh Freedom Life / This Freedom Life (2018) follows two women from the working class neighborhood of Ambedkar Nagar as they try to create a “free” space for life and love. \nThis event is sponsored by the Department of Middle Eastern\, South Asian\, and African Studies (MESAAS)\, MA program in Film & Media\, and the Center for Comparative Media. \n\nDownload (PDF\, 1.02MB)
