He was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1955. His father was an interior designer and decorator, and it was from him that he developed an appreciation for the beauty of art and the emotional connection that it provides. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 1976. Upon graduating, he moved to New York in 1977 and began working at the membership desk of the Museum of Modern Art. In 1979, he began working as \u00a0Wall Street commodities broker in order to fund his work before he had his breakthrough series and first solo exhibition, <i>The New<\/i>, in 1980. Since then, Koons&#8217; career has taken off and he has had exhibitions all over the world. Most recently, the <a href=\"http:\/\/whitney.org\/Exhibitions\/JeffKoons\">Whitney Museum of American Art<\/a>\u00a0presented a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Koons&#8217;, featuring works from the entire span of his career.<\/p>\n<p>Koons currently splits his time between New York City and York, Pennsylvania, where he continues to work and add to his narrative.
