All are invited to the Archives & Special Collections Open House on Thursday, October 19 from 3 to 6pm in Conference Room 101 in the Knowledge Center in the A. C. Long Health Sciences Library located on the lobby level of the Hammer Building.
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Open House will feature rare and unusual items documenting the history of the medical school including student notebooks and letters, original student registers — with names written in Latin, at that time the language of medicine — medical books by early faculty, diplomas, surgical kits, photographs, cartoons, and many other documents and artifacts.
Attendees can enter a raffle for a chance to win rare books on the history of P&S: The Faculty of the College of Physicians & Surgeons…Twenty-four Portraits (1919), a portfolio by the renowned American photographer Doris Ulmann; and John C. Dalton’s History of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in the City of New York (1887). We will also be giving out free 250th anniversary souvenirs including pens, almonds, M&Ms, and key chain lights!
You may come any time between 3pm and 6pm but we ask you to register in advance:
