To enable IMAP on LionMail/Gmail as requested by me, or for connecting to an external email program such as ThunderBird, Outlook, or Apple Mail, there are three steps to follow:
- Enable IMAP.
- Log into LionMail at http://lionmail.columbia.edu
- Click the gear icon in the top right hand corner and click “Settings”
- Click the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab
- Select the “Enable IMAP” radio button under IMAP access
- Save your changes with the button at the bottom of the page
- Step 2 is to allow less secure apps to connect to your email
- Click your image/icon/initial in the top right hand corner, and click “My Account”
- Under “Sign-in & security”, click “Connected apps & sites”
- Toggle the “Allow less secure apps” switch to ON
- Click your image/icon/initial in the top right hand corner, and click “My Account”
- Last step is to get your LionMail Device Password
- Login to the Device Password settings page
- Click “Create”
- Copy & save the automatically generated device password that appears on the next page (8-10 random characters.)
