Celebrating Students of Color!
This year, SoCA held the first annual students
of color graduation ceremony on May 11th from 4-6pm in the Joseph D Jamail Lecture Hall. The tireless efforts of our programming chair, Jacqueline (Jackie) Altamirano Marin made this event a resounding success! Jackie pioneered this event, which SoCA and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (GSAS) will continue into the future.
In addition to providing an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of students of color, this ceremony also provided the opportunity to celebrate and mourn the passing of our previous co-chair, Devon Wade. Devon was critical for establishing SoCA at Columbia and fostered success in students of color both through advocacy and mentoring. To read more about Devon, please see here.
