SUMMARY:Race\, Policing\, and Civil Rights: A Community Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:This event\, which mixes media\, public dialogue\, politics and arts\, is the first in a series of town halls focused on exploring the community’s take on timely social issues. As the media storm over Eric Garner and Ferguson subsides\, Brooklyn Independent Media seeks to keep the conversation going while finding an empowered way to move forward in a borough and nation where people of color continue to be subject to racially biased police conduct. The Town Hall will culminate in a live performance by Brooklyn-based activist and multi-dimensional hip hop artist John Robinson. \n[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/107168458[/vimeo] \nModerator: \nBrian Vines\, BRIC/Brooklyn Independent Media \nPanelists: \n\nEsmeralda Simmons\, Executive Director Center for Law & Social Justice at Medgar Evers College\nLumumba Bandele\, Senior Community Organizer for Malcolm X Grassroots Movement\nJumaane Williams\, City Council Member\nRinku Sen\, Publisher of Colorlines and Executive Director of Race Forward\nLinda Sarsour\, Executive Director of Arab American Association\nAnthony Miranda\, President of the Latino Officers Association\n\nMusical Guest:\nHip Hop Artist John Robinson \n
