DESCRIPTION:The Human Rights Project at the Urban Justice Center is proud to present Open Season– an evening of multimedia art and conversation about our country’s culture of confinement. What are the societal conditions that led to the creation of our current system of policing and prisons? \nWe will feature the vision and voices of leading thinkers and artists: \n\nDr. William Jelani Cobb\, UConn Professor and New Yorker contributor\nBryonn Bain\, Poet and New York University Professor\nEsther Armah\, Syndicated Radio Host- The Spin\nTaneya Gethers-Muhammed\, Brooklyn Public Library\nLumumba Bandele\, NAACP Legal Defense Fund\nPaloma McGregor\, Dancer and Choreographer\n\nDance performances curated with Dancing While Black \nSoundscape by DJ Jahsonic \nArt by Jerome Lagarrigue\, Russell Frederick\, Brian Polite\, Dominique Sindayiganza \nCommunity partners include the NAACP Legal Defense Fund\, NYU’s Prison Education Program\, Angela’s Pulse and Articulations. Additional support is being provided by The Studio Museum of Harlem. \nCurated by Shani Jamila\, Artist and Human Rights Project Director \nThis event is open to all.
