SUMMARY:The Institutional Effects of Incarceration
DESCRIPTION:WHO: Jason Schnittker is a Professor of Sociology and H&SS Program Site Co-Director at the University of Pennsylvania. His research explores the intersection of genes and environments in shaping well-being\, as well as the relationship between incarceration and the health of current and former inmates. He is interested in the social\, biological\, cultural\, and institutional determinants of health. \nWHEN: Thursday\, March 27\, 2014\, 3:00pm -4:30pm.ABOUT: The rise of the prison system has consequences for unemployment and voting.  These effects can be regarded as institutional in their breadth and systematic nature.  Does incarceration affect the health care system in the same way?  In this talk\, Schnittker will explore the potential for spillover effects between the prison system and the health care system. \nWHERE: LL 203-Hammer Health Sciences Building (MAP).
