SUMMARY:Immigrant Youth Empowerment Conference
DESCRIPTION:Registration Link:\nbit.ly/IYECon2015 \nFundraising Link:\nbit.ly/IYEConDonate \nVolunteer Link:\nbit.ly/Volunteer4IYECon \nThe annual Immigrant Youth Empowerment Conference(IYECon) is an all day conference which aims to empower all youths and their families\, regardless of their immigration status\, by providing access to concrete resources and tools to organize within their communities. Our theme for this year’s conference\, Redefining Success\, challenges conventional perceptions of success: what does it mean to be undocumented and successful? Can we reimagine success as a collective concept\, to redefine success as engaging and uplifting our communities? \nThis year’s conference will bring together hundreds of youth\, family members\, and educators to meet with high school and college students\, community organizers\, lawyers\, and professional development leaders. IYECon will include workshops for undocumented youth\, about the college process as well as creative ways to organize in one’s own community within academic spaces and on the street. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. \nWe invite you to encourage anyone whom you think will benefit from this event to attend. This conference is open to the whole community. We will be sharing resources\, building community\, and engaging in conversations on the role that higher education plays in overall community advancement and organizing. \n———————————————- \nSaturday May 9th at\nTeachers College\, Columbia University\, Building Horace Mann.\n525 W 120th Street\nNew York\, NY 10027 \nBreakfast and lunch will be provided.\nSee below for outline of the day: \n8 AM: Introduction/Breakfast\n9 AM – 12:30 PM: Workshops\n12:30 – 1:50 PM: Lunch/Keynote Speaker\n2 – 3:30 PM: Workshops\n3:30 – 4:30: Open Mic/Art/Cultural Event \n———————————————- \nIf you have any questions\, you can feel free to contact IYEC on their Facebook page.\nor via email at IYEConNYC@gmail.com \nP.S.
