SUMMARY:Black\, Brown or otherwise Deviant: the making of who is criminal
DESCRIPTION:From “thugs” to “illegals\,” we are surrounded by representations of Black\, Brown\, undocumented\, queer\, homeless\, disabled bodies that portray us as criminal. This teach-in hosted by Columbia University Students Against Mass Incarceration\, Lucha & the Columbia Prison Divest campaign will explore the criminalization & incarceration of marginalized communities in the United States. \nWho is considered a criminal? Whose bodies are most associated with crime? Who decides what counts as a crime? How has this category been constructed over time? What are the power dynamics that make up the global system of mass incarceration and policing today? \nJoin us Wednesday September 10th in the Malcolm X Lounge in Hartley Hall. \n@cuprisondivest\n@CU_SAMI \nThis event is a part of the 2014 Disorientation Program. Check out the Disorientation Guide:\nhttps://cudisguide.wordpress.com/ \nand other Disorienation programs:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/316487121867440/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
