Mysteries of a Barber’s Shop
MYSTERIEN
or, Mysteries of a Barber’s Shop
6pm on Sunday, October 30th
at the Cornelia Street Cafe
Morningside Opera pairs the Weimar-era silent film “Mysteries of a Barber’s Shop” (text by Bertolt Brecht) with a klezmer/grunge band, several pairs of small leather shorts, and a soprano with a few arias to get off her chest.
Praised by the New York Times for its “bold imagination and musical diligence” and hailed as “a company to watch”, Morningside Opera’s 2011-2012 season explores the relationship between opera and other artistic genres. In the brave new era of HD simulcasts, Morningside Opera looks to the beginnings of film to investigate the bonds and agonism between opera and cinema.

Featuring: Hamilton Berry, cello * David Madden, accordion * Brett Umlauf, soprano * Kem Walker, clarinet and master of ceremonies
Directed by: Minou Arjomand
