All are professional artists with an established studio practice and recognized career. About EFA Studio Program: Founded in 1998 as a program of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, the EFA Studio Program was created to provide affordable studio space within a community of artists, facilitate career development, and promote public and critical exposure for our members. EFA Studios is housed on eight floors of the EFA building located in Midtown Manhattan’s Fashion District, in close proximity to the city’s primary gallery districts. Members are selected by a jury of respected arts professionals, through a competitive application process. EFA Studios facilitates interaction with dealers, curators, and critics to provide continued development for member-artists. Unique among studio programs in New York City, EFA Studios is one of the few remaining arts organizations still providing long-term workspace in Manhattan.

Congratulations Nishan!

My friend Nishan Patel put together a series of art and art education essays, lesson plans, and art in a book that just got published! I wrote a piece on the importance of storytelling and narrative in art education. Three images of my art (2 drawings and an etching) are in the book as well 🙂 I’m pretty excited about it! The book is on Amazon! Feel free to pick it up or check it out 🙂

Message from Judy

Dear everyone, I am pleased to invite you to an “evening with Shani Rhys James” this coming Thursday evening October 8th from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Macy Art Gallery. As you are aware, Shani is our Resident Visiting Artist and she will be with us until October 20. I know that many of you have already dropped by her Macy Studio space to view her work, exchange conversation and ideas and plan some collaborative activities.

I have asked Shani to share her work more fully with us on Thursday evening, tell us how she became an artist, the development of her work and how she situates herself within the traditions of contemporary art. She will show IMG_9940her paintings, discuss her recent curatorial work, and have on hand many of the small books she makes.

I urge you to join us for Shani’s presentation. We organize these events to extend the art education provided for you through our Program as it is crucial for you as art educators and researchers to develop your insights and sympathies beyond the courses we teach and confront issues of profound concern for your future successes. We have kept Thursday evenings open for these events and have more planned for the future.

Shani Rhys JamesYou should know that while she is a painter, Shani herself has taken the opportunity to extend her work and as our resident artist she will work with Tom on creating a piece in ceramics and with Mahabobe she will work on a lithograph.

I hope to see you all on Thursday—please send apologies if you cannot be with us. Refreshments will be served.

Judy
