Is this the year you’re applying to graduate school?

Is this the year you’re applying to graduate school? Even if it’s not, we recommend you connect with schools that you’re interested in early on. Graduate school applications can be time-consuming to gather all of the pieces for, especially if you’re juggling several applications on top of your personal and professional life. You also want to make sure that the program you apply to is the best fit for your goals.

Columbia SIPA will be participating in the APSIA Online Grad School fair on July 25. Register today to learn more about what you can do with a SIPA graduate degree – our alumni work in everything from international trade policy to counter-terrorism to social impact investing (and much more).

APSIA stands for the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, a network of schools that demonstrate their excellence in career-focused, graduate-level, international affairs education. APSIA schools generally stress the application of theory to practical uses and are focused on helping students become meaningful agents of change. APSIA has a robust list of relevant Fellowships & Scholarships for those interested in policy and international affair graduate studies.

If you’re in the area, stop by the Summerfest mini graduate fairs coming up this month. SIPA alumni, current students and admissions staff will be here to answer your questions.

Summerfest 2014 in NEW YORK CITY

Before the summer is over, you need to attend at least one Summerfest.  You may have missed the other two in DC but you still have one more chance to beat the heat in New York.

What?  You still haven’t figured out what Summerfest is?  It’s just the event of the summer and place to be if you are interested in a career in international affairs.

Join us for an evening and we promise you will meet alumni, students and staff from five top graduate programs in international affairs and learn about the graduate programs, career opportunities and network with professionals in international affairs.

Representatives from the following graduate international affairs programs will be available:

  • Columbia University – School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA)
  • Georgetown University – Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service
  • Johns Hopkins University – The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS)
  • Princeton University – The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs
  • Tufts University – The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy

We’re being hosted by the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, 47-49 East 65th Street in New York City (10065 – if you need the postal code to plug into your GPS).

Be there on Wednesday, July 16 (that’s in 2 days).  Doors open at 5:30pm… stay for a few minutes or until the “party” is over at 8:00pm.  Admissions representatives (and alumni/students) will be available all evening.  Bonus:  there will also be two alumni panel Q&A presentations at 6:00pm and 7:00pm.

So what are you waiting for?  RSVP and share this with friends and colleagues.

See you at Summerfest 2014!

If you come looking for us and you can’t find us; it’s because we have been temporarily relocated.

The Admissions Office will be undergoing some repair work this summer so we will be temporarily relocated from the International Affairs Building (IAB) Room 408 to IAB 803/804 from July 18 to July 29.  If you decide to brave the heat and visit us in New York, we will be happy to meet with you (in an air conditioned space).  However, due to space constraints, you should try to plan your visit when we are back in our home suite, IAB 408.

If you are already registered for this Friday’s (July 19th) information session, please arrive at 12pm.  We will be set up for the session directly across the hall from 408.  If you are interested in attending one of our future information sessions, you may register on our website.

This week you can also find us in Washington, D.C.  Come speak with admissions representatives and SIPA alumni at the Summerfest 2013 event held at Johns Hopkins University, SAIS on Thursday, July 18th at 6:00 p.m.  If you can’t make it to Summerfest on Thursday, an admissions representative will be at American University’s Katzen Arts Center for the 11th Annual PPIA Public Service Expo on Friday, July 19th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Looking forward to meeting you this summer.

"The most global public policy school, where an international community of students and faculty address world challenges."

—Merit E. Janow, Dean, SIPA, Professor of Practice, International and Economic Law and International Affairs
