ZIZI AZAH ABDUL MAJID is an Asian Muslim playwright whose plays advocate for a shared humanity through a feminist lens. Her plays have been staged in Singapore, Malaysia and China; to date fifteen of her full-length plays have been produced. Zizi has also directed sixteen productions including performances that were part of the Singapore Arts Festival, the Journey Beijing Festival as well as the Singapore Theatre Festival. For five years, Zizi served as Artistic Director of Teater Ekamatra (Singapore), the only woman to ever helm the theatre company in its 29-year history. Her work has been nominated for multiple awards at the Life! Theatre Awards (Singapore) and she was conferred the Young Artist Award in recognition of her significant contributions to Singapore theatre. Zizi is a published author of Fatimah and Her Magic Socks, an illustrated children’s book and her short stories and plays have been featured in various anthologies. Zizi is also a leading researcher of the history of Singapore Malay Theatre and has published academic papers as well as presented talks on the subject. Zizi recently completed a one-year residency with Centre 42 (Singapore) during which she wrote three full-length plays. In her coming work, Zizi is keen to explore the manipulation of traditional dramatic structures and non-linear narrative.
