Melis Aker is a multi-disciplinary actor, writer and musician hailing from Ankara, Turkey. Upcoming: *Her play Manar (semi-finalist: 2016 Theatre503 London Playwriting Award) was chosen to be a part of LPAC‘s 2017 Rough Draft Festival, which will be premiering March 28-29. Manar was also accepted to be part of Golden Thread Productions‘ 2017 ReOrient Festival in San Francisco’s Thick House on November 17–December 10. *An excerpt from her untitled new play will be part of LaMaMa’s reading series in March (exact dates TBD).
A few of Melis’ acting credits include The Wishing Tree (Leyla) at the Signature Theatre, Opium (Queen Victoria) at the New Dramatists, Charles Randolph-Wright’s Love in Afghanistan (Roya) at the Arena Stage for which she did a reading at the Roundabout, Tsunami (Dorra) at the 2014 PEN World Voices Festival and AFRICA NOW!, season 3 of the web series My Gay Roommate (Priscilla/Robyn), The Blacklist: Redemption (S1E3) premiering on NBC, Proof (Catherine) at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I Capture the Castle (Cassandra), Double Indemnity (Lola), and These Shining Lives (Pearl) at Stoneham Theatre. As a musician, she released her EP “Dirt” via Young Pals Music, which was picked up by podcast radio MaxFm in Turkey, and her single “The Little Prince” under the music collective AKER, which she co-found with Alessio Romano from Studio 42 Brooklyn. She has performed in venues ranging from Pianos NYC, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, Leftfield NYC to Shapeshifter Lab BK. Melis holds a B.A. in Drama/Philosophy from Tufts University and a certificate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
