Developing Engagement in Asia

Did you know that some 13,000 Columbia alumni and parents are based in Asia, more than any other region outside the United States?

Once again, the CAA has kicked off coordination for its annual Asia engagement and outreach campaign, which brings together alumni, students, parents, and prospective Columbia families in Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, and Hong Kong this summer.

The campaign — a collaborative effort between the CAA, Columbia’s Family Engagement, and alumni relations and development teams from schools and units across the University — is the CAA’s largest, most integrated effort toward overseas alumni relations and development. It has four major components:

  • Large-scale CAA events in each city, attracting 200 to 350 attendees who represent every school and unit at Columbia;
  • Columbia 101 events hosted by Family Engagement to welcome new undergraduate students and parents to the Columbia family;
  • School-specific development events and meetings; and
  • Alumni Leaders Weekend that brings together CAA clubs from across Asia for a workshop designed to train club leaders in best practices and to create peer-to-peer advising.

Designed to amplify University messaging while engaging Columbians in each of the host cities, events highlight teaching and research within key themes identified by President Bollinger. In many cases, our schools’ deans either host or moderate these events, helping to connect the schools to the University’s priorities and the greater Columbia community.
