Dürer’s Printed Passions
Dr. Larry Silver, University of Pennsylvania

6:30 pm
MOBIA (61st and Broadway)
Part of a lecture series for the exhibition Dürer, Rembrandt, Tiepolo: The Jansma Master Print Collection from the Grand Rapids Art Museum

The greatest printmaker of his age, Albrecht Dürer often depicted the Passion in print and paint. In this lecture, Dr. Larry Silver will examine the varied printed series of the Passion, including the Small Woodcut Passion, the Large Woodcut Passion, and the Engraved Passion, the last of which is on view in the exhibition. Because Dürer produced prints using woodcut and engraving, he developed new techniques within each medium, especially after his trip to Venice in 1505-7.
