President’s Note

To returning members, new students, and the broader Columbia community: welcome to a new academic year!

I am incredibly excited to lead InterVarsity in a year when a renewed focus on the Gospel is at the very center of our mission. Both our membership and the broader Columbia community will experience a breadth and depth of gospel-centered ministries that will bring transformation to individual hearts and the campus community.

The Bible tells us that the Gospel is good news, not merely good advice. Now, news is a report on something that has already been accomplished. This is the starting point: to realize that the person and life of Jesus is good news to mankind. Once we set out to grasp this truth fully, our hearts begin a process of permanent transformation. Jesus did not come to give us advice on how to live a better life, he came to bring us news that the God of the universe has invited us into the best life. Jesus says, By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love…These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:8-11

The InterVarsity leaders are already running alongside one another toward bringing about a modern Acts 2 community through a gospel-centered fellowship. I invite you to join us this year in our ambitious and fruitful journey!

Sincerely,

Emile Barraza
