1. What is the ideal time to arrive?
If you have not yet found a place to stay, we suggest you be here latest by second week of August. You would also have ample time to explore the city and its diversity. The ISSO also has many social events planned for the incoming students during this period. Check out the ISSO website at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/isso/isso.html for more details.
2. What all documents need to be carried for the initial university paperwork?
The first thing to do after reaching new york should be to report at the ISSO (524 Riverside Drive) with your i-20 and passport. They provide you with documents required to open bank account and other university details.
3. When will temporary accommodation info be posted?
Atleast a week before your arrival.
4. Will pick up facility be provided from the airport?
Unfortunately it will be not possible for us to provide a pick up facility. Since it is your first time in new york we will suggest you to take a cab (yellow cab). A cab from JFK should typically cost you around 50-55$ (plus add a 15% tip ).
5. Can temp accommodation be extended if unable to find accommodation within a week?
This can be done only under extraordinary circumstances. We think 7 days should be enough to find a place if you are actively searching for apartment.
