Tutoring

The Scholar Chapter plays an advocacy role for greater access to higher education for students of color through its outreach into the local community. Chapter members serve as role models by actively educating youth about how to prepare for college. Providing opportunities for service gives members a stronger commitment to their own goals and teaches leadership skills.

HSF/CASW TUTORING PROGAM

Our Chapter established a partnership with the Children’s Arts and Science Workshop (CASW), Inc. in 2007. CASW provides high school students from Washington Heights with educational, recreational, cultural, and employment programs.

The tutoring program was launched in 2010. The tutoring program of the Columbia chapter of HSF is dedicated to helping studentswith limited resources achieve academic success and gain confidence in their academic abilities. The members of the tutoring program make a commitment to helping high school students with their homework, test preparation, New York reagent exam preparation, and advice on

study skills. The program is designed to create an environment where the high school studentsĀ feel comfortable and seek the assistance and resources they need in order to succeed in their academic pursuits. The goal of the tutoring program is to produce drastic improvements in the areas of study that the students were initially having difficulty in.

Our tutoring program allows for tutors to work one on one with a student in a specific subject. Our tutoring schedule is quite flexible.
