Clinic Course Spring 2015

HIST G8923 History in Action M 4:10-6:00 Pamela Smith / Manan Ahmed

Next term’s five workshops will be combined in a Clinic Course, entitled History in Action.
Students may attend individual workshops, or take the whole course for credit, which will involve regular attendance and work on a group project. The course, coordinated by Profs. Smith and Ahmed, aims to introduce graduate students to a range of professionals whose work contributes substantially to our understanding of historical knowledge in the public sphere. Each visitor will run two sessions of the course and guide students on group projects. Visitors will include:

1/26 Simon Schama, author of The Story of the Jews, Volume I: Finding the Words, 1000 BCE-1492 CE, on writing, history and media.
2/2, 2/9 Gaiutra Bahadur, author of Coolie Woman, on journalism and historical reporting.
2/16, 2/23 Andrew Hsiao, senior editor and publisher, Verso Books, on marketing.
3/2, 3/9 Navina Janat Haidar, curator, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on public curation.
3/23, 3/30 Jean-Herve Jezequel, senior analyst International Crisis Group, on NGO research and advocacy.
4/6, 4/13 Anjali Kamat, documentary film-maker and reporter, Frontline Al-Jazeera, on visual media and historical narratives.
