The Haiti Environment Network (HEN) is run by the Columbia University Hydrology (CU Hydrology) team under the direction of Wade McGillis. The team has developed and deployed a network of hydrologic and climatologic monitoring stations across the southwestern coast of Haiti, collecting data since January 2010. Data gathered on regional atmospheric conditions and river hydrology are used to develop flood monitoring, prediction and emergency response programs for various watersheds. Hydrologic modeling efforts are carried out to identify regions at risk of flooding and flood damages. Monitoring information is also used to support UNEP efforts for identifying hydroelectricity potential in the region.
