Habitat on the Hill 2020

Habitat’s annual legislative conference will be held on Feb. 10-13 in Washington, D.C. This conference is an opportunity for Habitat homeowners, volunteers, staff and supporters to unite in our nation’s capital to learn about our legislative priorities and meet with elected officials to advocate for safe, affordable housing.

Scholarships will be available for emerging leaders between the age of 18 and 40, including conference registration, travel to D.C. and double-occupancy lodging. This year’s conference will also include a full day pre-conference for emerging leaders to get more immersed in advocacy.

Stand-Up for Housing & Jobs

Come enjoy a night of comedy at Gotham Comedy Club in New York on October 23, 2019. All proceeds support critical home repair and workforce training for low-income New Yorkers. For more information, refer to the brochure.

Bike and Build 2020

Bike and Build organizes cross-country and regional cycling trips for young adults (ages 18-29) to benefit affordable housing. Our teams of 30 or so, begin their journey on the East Coast and begin pedaling West, stopping every 3-5 days to build affordable homes with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, and beyond. Affordable Housing Panel

Help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1968 protests with a discussion on affordable housing, featuring panelists Farrah Griffin and Carl Dix. Food and refreshments will be served!
Professor Farrah Griffin is a Professor of African-American Literature at Columbia University who will be speaking on the unfair housing practices that affect minorities and how they affect communities.
Carl Dix is a community activist from Baltimore, MD. He has organized and participated in civil disobedience protests in Harlem to combat “Stop and Frisk” policies. He has been featured on CNN and is currently working with RefuseFascism.org

Habitat NYC is looking for a Summer ReStore Intern and a Fall Government Relations and Advocacy Intern.The Advocacy and Government Relations department is tasked with building relationship with elected officials and community organizations. We are responsible for the organization’s legislative agenda, implementations of advocacy campaigns, and briefing internal stakeholders on government partnership.Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells building materials, home furnishings, tools and appliances at typically 50-80% off original value. Proceed from the sale of these items will go towards building affordable housing in NYC.  The team greets customers, answers phones, prices items, and helps unloads trucks of donation. We work with volunteers who cover about 75% of the work load.  We have a friendly environment with many opportunities to learn about our non-profit and the world of retail sales.
