Program Requirements & Recommended Plan

Interns in the DBT program are required to complete 75 credits, 15 more than the 60 credits required for the traditional MSW degree. The electives T7320 Adult Psychopathology and T7302 Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency are offered in the Fall, Spring AND Summer terms. Students may either enroll in one or both of those courses during the Spring semester of their first-year, the Summer after their first year, or in their final Spring semester. However, prospective DBT interns are strongly encouraged to enroll in Psychopathology during Spring of their first year, or summer following the first year.

SPRING First Year
  • T7320 Adult Psychopathology (3.0 credits)
SUMMER Required Courses

Students are required to enroll for 6 credits during summer session and attend classes over the 10 week standard summer session.

  • T6009:01:  Behavioral Assessment and Intervention (3.0 credits)
  • T6009:02:  DBT Practice (3.0 credits)

  • T7614 Behavioral Health in Corrections* (3.0 credits)
  • T7613 DBT Consultation Seminar (3.0 credits)

  • T7114 Advanced Clinical Practice mini courses -2 (3.0 credits)
    • Motivational Interviewing (option to take CSSW mini course OR complete external workshop)

  • T6009 Suicide & Advanced DBT Topics (3.0 credits)
  • T7302 Alcoholism/Chem Dep (3.0 credits)

    Given that the DBT program is 15 credits longer than the traditional MSW, will that extend the program’s date beyond the 2 years required to complete the degree?
