Molly Carmel, LCSW

 

Ms. Carmel is the founder and director of The Beacon Program. Ms. Carmel has made it her life’s mission to help people find a sustainable solution to the battle of obesity and related eating disorders and is among the leading behaviorists in the field of obesity. She specializes in the treatment of weight management, eating disorders and addictions. The Beacon also serves the needs of clients wanting skills training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Ms. Carmel believes that the skills and theories of Dialectical Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Wise Mind are the keystones to help people to live their very best lies. In addition to her extensive training in DBT for substance users and eating disorders, Ms. Carmel has completed the Advanced Intensive Training in DBT with Behavioral Tech, LLC. As a result, Beacon’s philosophies and programs are informed with DBT and CBT.

Ms. Carmel served as the founder and senior clinical director of Wellspring, the nation’s leading provider of fitness and weight loss camps for children, teens, young adults, and families. She founded their first boarding school, Academy of the Sierras. She now serves as Wellspring’s chief clinical consultant. Her role at Wellspring includes creating and implementing Wellspring’s therapeutic and behavioral curriculum, training staff, and overall program management and oversight.

Before creating The Beacon, Ms. Carmel created Greenlight, a successful weight management program at the renowned Wilkins Center in Greenwich, CT and at Webster Wellness Professionals in St. Louis, MO.

Ms. Carmel’s work has been featured on The Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show, Dateline NBC, Anderson Cooper 360, and Extreme Makeover as well as in People Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in social work from Cornell University and her Master’s Degree from Columbia University’s School of Social Work.
