Party: Low Beach Party

Bio: Hey, I’m Adam! I’m Vice President of Columbia College Class of 2019, and I’m a member of the CCSC Finance Committee, on which I serve as point person for the Student Events Fund proposal, which will provide free tickets for on campus events for students needing financial aid. Additionally, I help make funding decisions for weekly JCCC meetings, and last year I organized the Capital Investment Fund. Outside of student council, I’m a Furnald RA (its lit) and I’m in the URC. As VP Finance, I want to make campus life more financially accessible for all students and student groups!

Platform: My name is Adam Resheff, and I’m running for CCSC VP of Finance! I’m running for VP Finance to bring our community together. I’m running for VP finance to make going to Columbia and living in NYC a more affordable college experience. I’m running to ensure that student groups and projects have the funding that they need to enrich our campus life. With executive leadership experience as Vice President of CC 2019 and two years of finance experience as a member of the Finance Committee, the Joint Council Co-sponsorship Committee, and the Capital Investment Fund, I have the tools to manage our student life fees responsibly and steer the Finance towards building a stronger community. Here are some of the ways that I look to achieve my broader goals:

Community Building Initiatives:
• Fall Bacchanal Concert Financing
o the Low Beach Party has already received tentative approval for our Fall Bacchanal financial plan, which would provide funding equitable to the current Spring Bacchanal and ensure a high quality event experience
• Morningside Heights Restaurant Week
o Based off popular programs at peer institutions, MoHi Restaurant week would seek to provide discounts at already popular restaurants in the area and introduce Columbia students less explored dining options
o I worked as a member of the class of 2019 freshman council to help secure restaurant discounts for Columbia students throughout the Upper West Side and would be able to bring that experience and past success to this endeavor
• Finalize Student Events Fund
o As point person on the Finance Committee this semester for the Student Events Fund, I would work to ensure the initiative gets final administrative approval so that cost barriers would be greatly reduced for on campus events, making a community experience more accessible to everyone

Affordable Community and Student Group Financing Initiatives:
• Student Health Fund
o Would provide yearly funding to the Low Beach Party’s tampon initiative
• Art Class Registration Fund
o Currently students in CC have to pay hefty registration costs to enroll in art class, as well as pay for their supplies
o This fund would seek to cover the registration cost of art classes for CC students, with the goal of eventually expanding to cover the costs of supplies for CC students
• JCCC Reform
o Would review data from previous years to determine an appropriate funding-per-student-cap, which doesn’t currently exist, to ensure all student groups get necessary funding while preserving the health of the fund as a whole
• Reusable Mug Giveaway
o Blue Java offers student coffee discounts when they use reusable mugs
o This initiative would seek to giveaway reusable mugs so more CC students can make use of this opportunity
• Expansion of Aid for Summer Internships and Study Abroad
o Making the Global University concept accessible to all students
o Would work with Dean Valentini, the CCE, the Office of Global Programs, and the Office of Financial Aid to establish a fund similar to the Student Travel Fund to make Columbia a Global University for everyone

Party: Alliance

Bio: I’m Heloise, and I’m a junior in CC studying Economics-Mathematics with a concentration in Russian Language & Culture. I joined student council as an appointed member during my freshman year, and was later elected class representative the following year. During that time, I sat on the Finance Committee, working primarily with Student Project Grants and Bacchanal. In my free time, I love to dance, eat, and explore NYC (and am also a proud member of Delta Gamma and One-to-One Tutoring!!).

Platform: Food Insecurity
Alliance will work with First-Generation/Low-Income Partnership, Columbia University Dining, and the Columbia University Food Bank to address and mitigate food insecurity on campus. We will also advocate for the administration to increase institutional support for students dealing with this issue.

Kolumbia KickStarter
Alliance will work to implement and manage a Columbia crowdfunding platform as part of our mission to facilitate the flow of funds towards creative, community-oriented projects for students and student groups.

Financial Literacy
Alliance will collaborate with student groups to carry out workshops, and compile and adapt resources, so students can improve their financial literacy skills while studying at Columbia. Topics may include, but are not limited to: day-to-day budgeting, taking out loans, filing taxes, choosing a credit card, or saving for the future.
