“Another Poem for My Love” by Danielle Smith

While you are mine, and I call you my own,

And lie in your arms, sinew etched in stone—

I try to love you and yet you must ruin

With words, a skill-fully crafted illusion.

But when you are just the ghost of a kiss

Whispered softly on slumbering lips

Then I’ll love you, as always I’ve wanted,

A perfect dream, and uninterrupted.
