Longitudinal study of probation practices and youth outcomes

Longitudinal study of probation practices and youth outcomes

Description

This study follows a cohort of 270 delinquent youths who are court ordered to probation. The study is designed to address two questions: (1) what contextual factors influence probation strategies and (2) what are the effects of probation strategies on youth outcomes. Despite its predominance in the juvenile justice system, little empirical research exists that examines specific probation approaches, contextual predictors of these approaches, and youth-related outcomes of these approaches. The present study will contribute to the development of an evidence base for juvenile probation and identify policy initiatives that will foster the use of effective probation practices with court-involved youths.
