The Center for Study of Development Strategies and the Applied Statistics Center are pleased to announce a new initiative to support graduate student research in summer 2010. The two centers will make 4-8 grants available for new research projects for summer 2010.
Proposals should address the topics and themes of interest to the centers. CSDS especially encourages proposals to implement or develop experimental designs to examine questions related to the political economy of development; ASC encourages proposals to collect or analyze data to answer important questions in social research. In addition we encourage proposals that span the interest of the centers, for example collaborations between statisticians and social scientists to develop and apply techniques for addressing questions of substantive importance. Applications that seek to use the funding as a seed grant to develop larger proposals are also encouraged.
Proposals should include budgets to cover the proposed research; these should not exceed $5,000 for an individual project and $10,000 for a joint project that spans the interests of the centers. Awardees will be asked to present their designs and the results of their summer activities in a workshop in Fall 2010; in addition a short report should be filed with the centers describing the use of funds.
